Today I finally got round to having a sort out in my knitting cupboard. It's quite a large cupboard and if I am not vigilant other stuff gets in there, when people don't know where else to put it. I had lots of yarn to put away from a big project basket that has had various projects in it over the last couple of years, but hadn't been cleared out in between. (How does yarn that is put into a basket in neat balls manage to tangle itself all up into heap of spaghetti the minute your back is turned?)
It was quite a trip down memory lane - there was pink yarn from Mia's ballet cardie, cotton in various colours from the Little Bo-Peep sweater also for Mia. The fluffy white yarn I used to make sheep that were hidden in the LBP sweater for LBP to find with Mia's help. There was the cranberry red Debbie Bliss alpaca that turned into a moebius scarf for my sister. That yarn was lovely but very insistent that it didn't want to be knitted from the centre of the scarf out so I had to knit it lengthwise and then twist and graft the ends. There was ribbon yarn from the top I knitted myself from the Knitting Experience Purl book, that turned out to be one of my favourite things I have made for myself. There was Rowan Felted Tweed in Treacle that was from a sweater I made Gary with aran patterns on (they weren't all over, so i don't count it as an aran style sweater) There were swatches from different ideas I tried out, some more successfully than others - some where I thought "what was I thinking?" (spirals made up with the closed ring technique in one of Barbara Walker's Treasuries - not good!), and some "Did i really come up with that?" A very enjoyable couple of hours remembering lots of knitting fun, and, more importantly, those who I knitted for!
And I found another pair of 3.75 needles, metal ones, but at least the mystery needle chewing dog that visits when no one is looking, won't be able to harm them.
Talking about losing things - I am not sure if I have mentioned that Lucy's phone went missing last November. We looked high and low and eventually claimed on the insurance for it and got a new one. Yesterday, the lawn guys came to spray for the first time this year, so Charlie couldn't go on the grass. Lucy took her for a walk across the road instead and on the way back she stopped to pick up the mail and found a phone by the mailbox. At first we assumed that Edward must have dropped his on his way back from school - he normally checks to see if the mail has come when he gets off the bus, but it wasn't his. it turned out to be Lucy's missing phone. We don't know whether it has been in that exact spot all this time, or what, but anyway, apart from it being full of condensation, and the light being broken, it still worked. Lucy lost a lot of her contacts when she lost the phone so now she can get them back.
Carolinne has started her blog - well done, it's looking good so far! I am in the process of reorganising my links, so I will add the link to the appropriate list when I have decided what the final categories will be.
TV has been good this week, most notably great episodes of "Prison Break" and "Lost" - 'edge of your chair' stuff in both! <impatient> Can't wait for next week's shows. </impatient>
