Our flight was perfect and on time, no hold ups at check in or security. Got a taxi to the hotel straightaway, and our room is very nice and has a jacuzzi bath.
Our sole reason for visiting San Jose was to visit the Tech Museum (and maybe a peek in the Quilt Museum if there was time) so we set off downtown planning a visit to a coffee shop on the way. We noticed as we were walking along that there was a lot of "fast car" noise, and then we saw posters and ticket booths for the San Jose Grand Prix which it turns out is this weekend. The track was cordonned off and we started walking around to find where we could get across to the centre area where the museum is. We walked and walked. We could hear the cars practicing and at one point could just see the tops of the cars whizz by. The way they have the fences though ensures you can't actually see anything without paying. None of us have any interest in racing - I guess if we did we would have known about it. Anyway we walked and walked but couldn't find a way through. Eventually we asked a policeman and by now you have probably guessed that his answer was that we couldn't get through and the Museum was shut today. GRRRRRRR!!!!!! We did take the trouble to check the Mueum website before we planned our trip and there is no mention of it being shut this weekend. It mentions all the holidays it is open or shut on but not this event. It is also shut on Mondays and we are planning to move on tomorrow so it looks like we won't get to the tech museum.
